Actinidia arguta
Frost-hardy climbing plant with small edible fruits.
The mini kiwi, also known as the 'kiwi berry', originates from East Asia and is becoming increasingly popular due to its small, edible fruit. The climbing plant is perennial and grows to a height of 6 - 8m. It only bears its first fruit after 2 - 3 years. In contrast to the traditional hairy kiwi, the fruits of the mini kiwi are only around 2 - 5 cm in size, oval to round and have a smooth, edible skin. They are green-yellow to reddish and have a sweet, aromatic, green flesh with small, edible seeds. The plant is extremely frost-resistant.
